Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 25oC, overcast and heavy rain.
The rain has been pouring relentlessly for days, creating a calming background to my thoughts. Finally, Yasmin’s Christmas present has arrived – a stunning smartwatch. The happiness it has brought her is evident; I believe it’s her first watch.
With a decent computer, a very good tablet, and now this timepiece, our lower-middle-class lifestyle somehow provides her with everything she needs.
I’m thinking of Jessica, whose birthday is coming up. Although I wish we were closer, she knows I am here for her; her parents are nearby, ready to support her in any way she needs.
As the new year slowly unfolds, I can’t help but feel a sense of anxiety. In Brazil, they say the year only truly begins after Carnival, but I’m eager to jumpstart the changes I long for.
My desire to transform my life and explore uncharted territory is strong, even though the path ahead may be uncertain. I know I have no choice – it’s time to make this year different and embrace the unknown.
To make the most of this new beginning, I am ready to take on whatever challenges and opportunities lie ahead.
In bed by 9 p.m.
Thank you.
