Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 35oC, Sunny, and very hot and humid.
Today, I want to share with you a simple yet meaningful day in my life, one that revolves around solitude, early morning routines, helping loved ones, and celebrating a significant milestone – my older daughter’s 30th birthday.
Solitary Morning Bliss
As much as I cherish the company of my daughters, there’s something profoundly rejuvenating about solitude. Mornings, in particular, are when I come alive. I rise early, embark on an exercise routine, and feel the crispness of dawn in the air. This sacred time allows me to tackle essential tasks while the world still sleeps.
Paying bills, grocery shopping, and tidying up my home—all before the world stirs awake—imbues a sense of accomplishment that fuels my day.
Extending a Helping Hand
At lunchtime, my attention shifts to another significant aspect of my life—my relationships. Today, I met with Nalva, my second ex-wife, to assist her in opening a bank account at Caixa Econômica. The purpose? To tell her to save so that in the short future, with a bit of help, she would be able to buy her place for her and Yasmin. It’s a reminder that even after parting ways, bonds can remain strong when built on mutual support, care and respect.
A Daughter’s Milestone
The evening brings with it a sense of anticipation and nostalgia. It’s the eve of my older daughter’s 30th birthday. Time has flown by, and I can hardly believe it. She has planned a celebration with friends and family at a relatively new pizzeria in front of the beach in Leme.
A Charming Evening
The venue was a delightful blend of indoor and outdoor dining, with a covered awning deck overlooking the Avenue and beachfront. Soft, low-hanging lights created an intimate atmosphere, even on warm and humid Brazilian nights. A gentle sea breeze added to the ambience, making it the perfect setting for the celebration.
The gathering is a testament to my daughter’s beautiful friendships. It is heartwarming to see the bonds she’s formed with such fantastic people. Her mother, Cibele, is also in attendance, marking a reunion after some time apart.
We catch up, share stories, and find comfort in the simplicity of connection. Jessica’s husband, Mario, is charismatic, making the evening all the more memorable. Laughter, delicious food, and refreshing drinks fill the air.
A Happy Farewell
As the clock struck midnight, we gathered to sing “Happy Birthday” to my daughter, a moment filled with love and joy. Shortly after, I bid farewell to the festivities and made the short walk back home. It’s a mere three or four blocks away. On the way back, I stopped at the buteo (simple Brazilian bar/restaurant) next to my building to have a “spider”(one for the road) before going up.
It is sometimes so nice to have a glass of wine alone after a good evening in a different ambience than before; outside alone at 1 in the morning in the warm Carioca summer air was the “cherry on the cake”.
Reflecting on the Day
Lying in bed at 2 a.m., I take a moment to reflect on this day—a day marked by simple pleasures, family ties, and celebrating life’s milestones. It underscores the importance of solitude, the value of helping others, and the sheer beauty of connection. I can’t help but feel a deep sense of gratitude for the moments that make life rich and meaningful.
May you find inspiration in the little things and cherish the bonds that bring warmth and joy to your days, too!
