Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 33oC, very hot, sunny and stuffy.
It is boiling and stuffy. Today is Yasmin’s Day. Although it was not her birthday, we spent the whole day together.
As parents, it is important to read when our children need or are looking for our attention. Even though the child is not alone or lonely, a parent is sacred to the child. Sometimes, we can be blind to our children; the parent must understand that probably one of the most essential factors in a child is the quality of attention the parents can give him or her.
While Yasmin was sleeping, I had left early to work out at the end of Leme. When she woke up, I was already home and had made breakfast. A little before midday, we decided to have a walk around Copacabana.
I don’t have much money because I spent one week without working due to carnival, so walking is good because it is very cheap and easy.
The sun is scorching in the street. My hands have got burnt due to the lethal combination of lemon juice and sunlight on the skin. I have been preparing and drinking a lot of lemonade lately. Lemon juice with water, sweetener, cinnamon, and sometimes ginger and garlic, all for better health.
I had prepared a lemonade before going out, and I hadn’t washed my hands properly, and now I am paying the price with severe burns on both hands. I have had to buy Vaseline to put on the burns to ease the redness and pain, as it was too much.
Even so, we visited a friend who has a shop in the same building where I had the school in the past. There are a lot of young women in the shop who like Yasmin very much. Yasmin also likes their company, as when they are all together, there is a lot of joking and laughter.
As a father, I think it is suitable for her to interact with other people; she is with people who like her company, and as Yasmin sometimes has problems socialising, it is good for her.
We spent around 40 minutes there and then headed to a large stationery store to see if there was anything worth buying. Yasmin has always been passionate about drawing, sketching, and creating, so a stationery store is very special for her. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find anything interesting there. Since Yasmin had everything she needed, we had lunch at a local Per-Kilo restaurant. The food there is both delicious and reasonably priced.
After leaving the restaurant and on our way back home, we decided to two buy açais to take home with us. I like açai with granola, but Yasmin prefers it with powdered milk.
When we got home, I had to rest, as I was very tired from walking in the hot sun so much. Yasmin wanted to draw and finish off her homework for Monday.
At 7 in the evening, we played chess, the best of three games. We had arranged to play the day before, but I wasn’t in the mood to play as I was still tired; even so, we played because I knew how important it was for her.
I won the first game, and I thought I was going to win the second, but she got to turn the game around and beat me. One one, the third and deciding game. She literally slaughtered me in this game. I was not helping her win; she played much better than me.
It was a lovely day with my younger daughter; I think it was complete for both, and nobody died!!!
In bed by 9:00 p.m.
Thank you.
