Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 30oC, hot, Sunny and slightly overcast.
It is Monday, and I am not feeling overly excited about exercising today, but that is how I am always. I reluctantly drag myself out of the house without much energy to work out, but I always return home feeling happy and ready to tackle the day.
At 56 years old, I finally realised the importance of exercising regularly. If I go two days without working out, I am already missing it. It is like a healthy drug that I cannot get enough of. I believe that when making significant changes to our lives, exercise and a healthy routine are the primary changes with which we should begin.
As I mentioned earlier, exercise has become an integral part of my life, an asset I had never genuinely appreciated. Once you establish a routine, consistently work out, and plan your schedule to avoid missing a session, you realise that you have already transformed yourself for the better.
When exercise becomes a part of your routine, it can be the first step towards transforming yourself. It not only motivates you to keep going, but it also provides opportunities for self-improvement and self-understanding.
Combining exercise with regular walking is a simple yet powerful choice with significant benefits. Together, they can have a tremendous impact on your health and well-being.
One example is that I can go without drinking alcohol for any period without missing it. I have lost the habit of drinking. I do not drink beer anymore; I have not drunk a beer since before my appendicitis operation, which nearly killed me, and that was almost three years ago.
As for spirits, I have not drunk a caipirinha in 10 years, as I saw that spirits slowly but surely kill you. This does not have a direct link with exercise or my new routine, but it positively helps me, and I do not regret stopping to drink.
There was a time, not so long ago, when I would drink three bottles of wine at the weekend. A bottle on Friday, one on Saturday and another on Sunday. Now, it is rare for me to drink a bottle of wine. I have not drunk a glass of wine in at least a month.
I do not miss drinking. Sometimes, I am tempted to drink a bottle of wine at the weekends, but it passes. My relationship with drink and wine relates to my healthier lifestyle and morning exercise routine.
Besides not drinking, and my exercise routine have also helped me to become more focused and patient. I am more focused on my work, thoughts, and priorities while being patient in the classes, with my pupils in general, and in life.
Regular exercise creates a safe port for you and your life.
Thanks again.
