Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 26oC, hot, sunny, clear, and slightly cloudy.
This is the week I begin developing the seven sites. I have installed WordPress on all the sites and their respective email accounts.
There is one problem with the main account, but I know it will eventually be resolved. There has been a lot of progress in just one day! I have had to uninstall and reinstall WordPress on the main site various times, but to no avail; every time after a reinstallation, a warning sign appears informing me that something is wrong.
As it was late in the evening and I was tired, I decided to sleep on it. After a good night’s sleep, I woke up knowing that somehow, I would have to resolve this problem today and that it probably was something silly that had been overlooked.
I got up early at half past four, went out to walk and exercise, had coffee on the way back, showered, and changed clothes. Now, I am ready to work and continue developing the sites. I gave two classes, and now I want to resolve this issue.
I stared at the computer’s screen and thought, “What is missing?” I tried one more installation, and still, there was a sign warning me that something was wrong with a denial.
I uninstalled it, and then when trying to reinstall, I saw the site specs that were wrong. I clicked on the drop-down bar to choose another spec, and the installation was accepted. It was such a silly problem.
Two observations shouted out to me about what had happened:
- When we sometimes cannot resolve something, no matter how many times we try, we cannot seem to fix that problem at that specific moment. Then, it is better to walk away and give it some space and time, whether just for a short period, to clear your head and approach the problem from another angle. Or, to literally sleep on it, if you can not do it today, try tomorrow, again, with a clear mind; sometimes, we need time to let the dust settle before facing the problem again.
- We often learn from small, silly details that make a big difference in the final process, especially with the internet and IT. We can know and learn so much more from our mistakes; it is just a question of humility to admit that we have made a mistake, own it, and learn from it. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed that you have committed a mistake; however, it is not logical to repeat the same error over and over again; learn from it and move on.
So now I have all seven sites configured with hosting and their respective domains, and nobody has helped; I have done it all alone. I think I have been winging it all my life, walking alone in the dark to survive, especially after living so long in Brazil.
What I am feeling at the moment is pride in doing something entirely new related to my work and personal development. It reminds me of when I was young and developed new boat projects in Brazil and England and that I had to know, learn, grow, and dominate new skills in my old profession.
I hadn’t felt this feeling for a long time, but now I feel it again. Every new step forward is a conquest, and encountering difficulties and overcoming them is even more gratifying. It is soul-cleaning.
Bring it on!!!
The rest of the day was spent giving classes and feeling proud and happy to be able to complete one more stage.
My name is still dirt with my daughter!!!
In bed by 9.30 pm.
Thank you.
