Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 28 °C, hot, sunny and slightly overcast.
It’s March 2023, and Lula, elected under suspicious circumstances, has been in power for only 2.5 months. Brazil is already in chaos.
Inflation and unemployment rates are rising, leading to layoffs, business closures, and suspended investment plans. Consequently, economic forecasts for the next four years are bleak, to say the least.
Lula has been elected for the third time. Unfortunately, his previous two mandates were marred by dishonesty, trickery, and corruption. The person who succeeded him, a woman from the same political party, faced impeachment after just two years in office.
The political party in question is PT, a socialist left-wing group that often exploits poverty and the poor to justify its corrupt activities. Corruption is widespread in Brazil, affecting all levels of the government and society, from the President to local city councillors.
When I arrived in Brazil, I was taken aback by the significant press coverage and visibility local city council members received. However, I understand that it is one of Brazil’s most desirable and best-paid jobs, offering minimal work with maximum compensation and benefits.
It would be almost impossible to convince anyone of the surreal reality of what they receive in Brazil. It is a highly harmful and toxic situation that is ridiculously out of control.
Our society is structured like a pyramid, where those at the top, such as the president, founder, owner, head of the family, or head of state, have the most influence. The example they set through their mindset, principles, and behaviour can have a trickle-down effect throughout the different levels of society.
This can be either positive or negative, much like water flowing down a mountain. If the President is competent, serious, and reasonable, he or she is an example for the other layers and vice versa.
For me, Lula is a geopolitical and Socioeconomic cancer. He doesn’t care about the people he supposedly loves and vigorously defends. The people are just an instrument to use and quench his hunger for power, driven by his over-inflated ego.
However, many people believe in him; many educated, well-prepared people accept what he says rather than looking at his actual actions and the damage he causes.
It’s vital to assess someone’s character by their actions rather than solely by their words. Unfortunately, many people do not realise this until it’s too late, leading to irreparable harm.
It’s surprising how often well-informed and experienced individuals complain about recurring issues such as deceit, corruption, and theft as if they are new and unexpected.
Going back to the beginning of the post, I have lost 30% of my students since January due to this dark grey economic cloud covering Brazil. I am worried and concerned, as the common consensus in Brazil now is that nobody wants Brazil to be like Argentina, which has inflation above 100% a year or even worse,
Venezuela, where 60% of the population has gone below the poverty line due to a corrupt socialist left-wing dictatorship government.
Friday is the eve of the weekend, so bring on the weekend. I am an 8 or 80 person. I will do nothing and chill out, or I will do something special that makes the weekend super memorable. Both options are equally good. However, we mustn’t also shy away from adversity and strive for self-improvement.
In bed by 9 pm.
Thanks again.
